Royal Expert® Controversy: Harmful chemicals not established

Safety being paramount, I want to touch upon the controversy that Royal Expert® products were tested for dangerous levels of mercury and other harmful substance. While it is true that they were tested, it is important to focus on the results of the test which is that Royal Expert® products were found to be safe! Safety being paramount, I want to touch upon the controversy that Royal Expert® products were tested for dangerous levels of mercury and other harmful substance.

However a counterfeit product sold online on an unauthorized website was indeed found to have more levels of mercury than the accepted limits. I had in my earlier posts warned my readers to beware of counterfeiters and also mentioned the various ways you may detect them.

In this post I want to stress on the bad effects of various ingredients used in fairness creams principal of them being Paraben, Mercury and hydroquinone none of which ingredients are present in Royal Expert® products.

I will point out the dangers of using these products. Now some may argue that they are only putting these on the skin and not ingesting them. But I want to remind them that the skin is our largest organ and it indeed has the capacity of absorbing them and those harmful chemicals will then enter your body and do damage as is their wont.

It is inevitable that you will absorb makeup, soap or shampoo through the skin as I mentioned, swallow lip-balm lip-stick or lip-gloss or inhale perfume, powder or hair spray. So please do heed my advice and avoid such products.

I will state

  1. Why such dangerous ingredients are used,
  2. What their dangerous effects are and
  3. In what names they go by or hide under.

Parabens:  Parabens are used as preservatives in cosmetics and personal care products. While they are considered safe in accepted limits, the problem is that most products contain several types at the same time.

Harmful Effects:

  • Possible breast cancer
  • Decreased sperm count
  • Premature puberty

The following parabens have been banned in cosmetic products – Isopropylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Phenylparaben, Benzylparaben and Pentylparaben by The European Scientific Committee on Consumer safety and ASEAN. The Danish government has recently banned some additional parabens – Propylparaben and Pentylparaben as a precautionary measure.

Hydroquinone: It is considered a strong inhibitor of melanin product. So consequently, it prevents the skin from making melanin which is responsible for the dark colour of our skins. Hydroquinone does not bleach the skin but just makes it lighter by disrupting the synthesis and production of Melanin hyper pigmentation.

Harmful Effects:

  • Toxic to cells, causes mutations and cancer.
  • Could cause or worsen thyroid disorders, liver disease and adrenal dysfunction.
  • Causes skin rashes, burning skin irritation, excessive redness and a dryness or cracking of the skin.

Hydroquinone may be mentioned as monobenzone in some fairness creams. Generally it is in a 2% quantity but in some cases it may be prescribed by a registered physician with concentrations upto 4% too.

But Royal Expert® being extra cautious does not allow any hydroquinone into its products.

Mercury: It is an active ingredient effective against dark spots.

Mercury is a toxic chemical that is readily absorbed into the body but it is not easily removed. Over time mercury can accumulate in the body and cause mercury poisoning not only to users but also to others in their households.

Harmful effects:

• Cause skin rashes, skin discoloration and scarring.

• Using mercury on a long-term basis can damage the kidneys and the nervous system (WHO)

• Can cause lower cognitive functioning, headaches, fatigue, hand tremors, depression, psychosis and other symptoms in users.

• Interfere with the development of the brain in unborn children and very young children.

• Can cause a lot of health complication especially on pregnant women  as mercury in soaps, creams and other cosmetic products is eventually discharged into wastewater where it becomes methylated and enters the food-chain as the highly toxic methylmercury.

Do not be fooled by the following names as they all represent Mercury – Hg, mercuric iodide, mercurous chloride, ammoniated mercury, amide chloride of mercury, quicksilver, cinnabaris (mercury sulfide), hydrargyri oxydum rubrum (mercury oxide), mercury iodide or “poison”; directions to avoid contact with silver, gold, rubber, aluminium and jewellery may also indicate the presence of mercury.

Also pertinent to note is that Royal Expert® Group have terminated Royal International, Pakistan as manufacturers from that part of the world have been found to be lax with international guidelines. This is to ensure quality control from our end.

In Conclusion, Royal Expert® Group is now working with manufacturers that specialize in natural based skin care solution to bring you healthy, effective and high quality products.

I hope by now you realize the harmfulness of Paraben, Hydroquinone and Mercury and that you will avoid any product which has them. I am happy to state that my favorite brand Royal Expert® does not contain any of the above.

Stay informed, stay safe! Cheers!
